Medical doctors, as I used to know them, were people of integrity. They were confidants of their patients. And they enjoyed the confidence of their patience.
But current events show that there are more bad eggs in the body of medical doctors now than before. They are no longer what they used to be. Many of them are known to have compromised the ethics of their profession.
I have some stories to buttress this point.
The wife of one of my elder brothers went to the hospital in Lagos some time ago, to complain of what she suspected to be an appendicitis. While there, she was directed by the one of the hospital’s receptionist to go into one of the consulting rooms to see a doctor.
“After I had laid my complaint before a doctor,” she disclosed to me, “the doctor asked me to lie supine on the consulting bed in the room. As he was examining my stomach and my groins, he stealthily slipped his hand into my undies and brushed my pubic hairs with it.
“I didn’t complain at first because I thought it was part of his examination, but when he plugged his finger into my vagina, I knew that he had crossed his boundary. I quickly got up from the bed and started rebuking him.
“As my voice rose in crescendo, he fell on his knees and started pleading with me not to attract his workers to the room. I thought of chopping off one of his ears with my teeth, but the spirit of God in me held me back from doing that.
“I was highly embarrassed, more so when the doctor was a very young man. I left the place that day without being properly attended to and that was the last time I patronized that godforsaken hospital.”
What has the examination for appendicitis to do with the caressing of a patient’s pubic hair or of fingering her? A married woman for that matter! Haba!
That sister-in-law of mine is not the only woman who has been abused or assaulted by a medical doctor. There are tons of stories of several other women with similar ugly experiences.
One of such dirty doctors wanted to be funny with me some time ago and I gave me the hottest slaps of his life. In addition to that, I made sure he paid me some good amount of money to prevent me from reporting him to the appropriate authorities.
I am not a man, but I have also heard and read the stories of men who were abused and harassed by their female medical doctors. In other words, we also have some bad or dirty female medical doctors.
This type of professional misconduct is not peculiar to Nigerian medical doctors. Neither is it peculiar to young doctors. It is a global epidemic that involves doctors of all ages and sexes.
The most worrisome of these ugly stories were those of two old men, Dr. Ortega and Dr. Torres.
Dr. Fabio Ortega, a 72-year-old gynecologist, was recently accused in U.S. of sexually assaulting a patient during an appointment.
The same with 68-year-old pediatrician, Dr. Ernesto Torres. He was recently charged in the United States with raping a female patient. His story and that of Dr. Ortega and other dirty doctors are published by Bad Doctor Database.
The stories of doctors who behave unprofessionally are everywhere now, hence I decided to write this article. Girls, women and men, who have consulted a doctor, for one ailment or the other, can testify to this.
There are three reasons I decided to share this story, dirty doctors on the prowl: women beware! with you.
1. To bring the professional misconduct of some medical doctors to the knowledge of other members of the public, especially the womenfolk;
2. To advise girls and women to always be attentive and cautious whenever they are in the hospital for treatment, so that they would be able to know when their doctor crosses his boundary;
3. Because I know that this blog, Relationships Love Sex, will get out this story to women from all over the world.
